People in the Vents

Once upon a time there was an attractive young man who lives alone in a small apartment building near the suburbs. He was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder which allowed him to apply for subsidized housing. In this building were other people with similar cases, some that were homeless, and others that were simply regular residents. This building had a variety of people and things that happened here.

One day this young man ran into to an older woman that had a similar case as his, but he noticed there was something different about her. He would just say hi and ask how she was doing. As a few weeks passed by she noticed she was developing a skin condition. He wasn't sure what it was, but he was afraid to ask. There were marks on her arms and a few on her face.

The older woman saw him heading up the elevator and jumped on asking him if she could talk to him. He said yes, of course, being a nice guy. She started talking about the building and the activities in the building. She explained how there were drugs everywhere and drug dealers that lived in the building. Finally, she said that she did some of the drugs, but she was not addicted, she just did it to pass the time by.

When he reached his apartment she came in and began the story of how she was afraid to go home. She said that there were people in the air vents in her apartment, specifically the girl next door. She had small air vents for when the heat or cold air came out. She also said there were cameras that had been installed in her apartment but removed just before she checked for them. Finally, she mentioned that someone was putting screens on her skin. She described the screens as a mesh. She pulled one off of what looked to be a scab. He looked at what she pulled off and suggested a doctor visit to analyze what was happening to her.

He then decided to not indulge her anymore but to make random decisions whenever she stopped to talk. He knew every visit might turn in an encounter of the third kind and he wasn't really into science fiction. He now occasionally talks to her but has made visits limited and comments are spiritual. She seems receptive to spiritual suggestions, but he thinks the drugs has caused a lot of the issues she is going through.

The problem in this society is that we look at people one specific way and do try to see the underline items that may have brought them to where there are now. This woman could have multiple mental conditions and I am sure when you add drugs to them it must magnify or turn into more incredible things. I believe there should be a representative who's job is to help these people with their everyday struggle and to help prevent large-scale failures in their lives.
